The history of Le Jardin des Plumes, hotel and restaurant in Giverny

At the beginning of the 20th century, Armand Picard, a Parisian engineer, bought a huge plot of land in Giverny with plans to build a second home there, just moments from Claude Monet’s lavish house.

In 1913, his beautiful neo-Norman home was completed, to the delight of its happy owner. Armand Picard quickly had the property extended and a large henhouse was built for his wife, who had developed a passion for pedigree hens.

When the couple passed away, the house was acquired by the Luquet family and then by the Pirault family, who transformed it into a restaurant. Soon, the “Jardins de Giverny” (literally translated as the Gardens of Feathers) became a veritable local institution, but the restaurant’s reputation gradually faded.

In 2012, exactly a century after the first stone of Armand Picard’s house was laid, Éric Guérin opened Le Jardin des Plumes after significant renovation work.

In 2017, David Gallienne joined him in the kitchen. Soon, the owner promoted him, leaving him to run the kitchen at Le Jardin des Plumes. Two years later, the Chef became the official owner of the hotel and restaurant of Giverny in Normandy: the beginning of a new chapter.
